On Tuesday, October 27th, Rhea Valley Elementary had the privilege of welcoming Reggie Dabbs to our school! Our Jr. Cavaliers, faculty, and staff were treated to an uplifting and powerful message filled with encouragement, laughter, inspiration, and important life lessons.

Reggie reminded us of the importance of believing in ourselves, embracing our uniqueness, showing kindness to others, and understanding that every single person has value and a purpose. His message encouraged our students to recognize that their stories matter, their choices matter, and they have the ability to make a positive difference in the world around them.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to bring experiences like this to our students and provide moments that inspire them to grow not only academically but also as individuals and leaders.

A special thank you to Reggie Dabbs for sharing his time, energy, and inspiring message with our Jr. Cavaliers!

Following yesterday’s update regarding the mold/allergen concern at Rhea Valley Elementary School, additional testing and visual inspections have been completed.Additional testing and visual inspections were conducted in four rooms throughout the school. Three of the four rooms tested had slightly elevated levels of Aspergillus/Penicillium, the same spore type identified in yesterday’s testing. One of these rooms is not currently in use, while another is a first-grade classroom.

Testing also found slightly elevated levels of Myxomycete/Rust/Smut in two of the four rooms tested. This is a common type of spore found in most sample collections and is typically associated with plants and damp soil. It is often associated with potted plants.

Thankfully, testing did not identify Stachybotrys, the type of mold commonly referred to as “black mold.”

Out of an abundance of caution, Rhea Valley Elementary School will be closed for in-person instruction on Thursday, October 1, and Friday, October 2, while the building undergoes a thorough deep cleaning and additional steps are taken to address the mold/allergen concerns identified through recent testing. Students will transition to remote learning during this time.

While students are learning remotely, the affected areas and the full building will undergo a thorough deep cleaning. Although the school is not required to close, the decision to close for in-person instruction is a local decision made out of an abundance of caution and to ensure cleaning crews can complete the work without interruption. WCPS will also take additional steps to address the mold/allergen concerns based on the guidance of environmental professionals.

Instructional materials, Chromebooks and chargers will be sent home with students to support remote learning.

After-school activities are canceled while the school is closed.

WCPS will provide additional information about remote meal options for students and child care for working families as more details become available.

We understand that this information may be concerning for families and staff. WCPS will continue to work with environmental professionals and follow their guidance as we address the affected areas. We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this process.

🥬Holston FFA students delivered fresh lettuce from their greenhouse to Rhea Valley Elementary yesterday -- and today, that lettuce is being served to students across our schools!

More than 600 heads of Romaine lettuce were harvested this week after six weeks of daily work by students, from sowing seeds and monitoring the plants to managing water quality and nutrients.

It’s pretty cool to see the full process come together -- grown by our students, delivered by our staff, and served to our students.

Lights. Camera. Confidence!

The stage is calling, and we are excited to announce the Rhea Valley Elementary Theatre Club! 🎬✨

Theatre Club is a wonderful opportunity for our students to build confidence, express their creativity, work as a team, and discover the joy of performing. Students will have the opportunity to explore acting, character development, improvisation, storytelling, stage presence, and much more!

Through theatre, students will learn that being part of a production is about more than being in the spotlight. It is about working together, encouraging one another, listening, practicing, problem-solving, and celebrating each person's unique talents.

Whether your child dreams of being the star of the show, enjoys making people laugh, loves telling stories, or simply wants to try something new, there is a place for everyone in Theatre Club!

🎭 Theatre Club will help students:

Build self-confidence and public-speaking skills
Develop creativity and imagination
Practice teamwork and cooperation
Strengthen communication skills
Learn responsibility and perseverance
Make new friends and create lasting memories
Discover the excitement of performing on stage!

At Rhea Valley Elementary, we believe every student has a story to tell and a special talent to share. We can't wait to see our Junior Cavaliers take the stage and shine!
