Washington County Schools will be closed on Monday, September 4th for Labor Day.

We will be conducting a lockdown drill this week as part of our ongoing efforts to maintain a safe and secure learning environment here at Rhea Valley. The purpose of this exercise is to practice the procedures that we would follow in the unlikely event of an emergency situation that requires us to secure the school premises. Preschool nor kindergarten will be participating in this drill.
Thank you!
Referrals for gifted education services are now being accepted August 28 through September 15. If you would like to refer a student for an evaluation, please contact your student's homeroom teacher. Any referrals received after September 15 will be held until the Spring 2024 evaluation window. Should you have any questions, please contact Ms. Susan O'Dell at sodell@wcs.k12.va.us.
Thank you
School Pictures will be this Friday for Rhea Valley Elementary. Come with your best smile!

On behalf of High Point Elementary School I would like to thank the Washington County Sheriff's Office and the Virginia State Police for their assistance with the situation that led to High Point going on a soft lockdown for most of the school day today. They provided guidance and extra personnel to ensure our students and staff were safe. We greatly appreciate their expertise, professionalism, and collaboration.
I would also like to thank the Administration at High Point Elementary for making decisions that erred on the side of student/staff safety and for communicating the status of the situation multiple times throughout the day to our parents. We will brief the situation with administration and law enforcement tomorrow to ensure that we continue best practices and improve in the areas that need adjustments.
One of the early take aways is that we can communicate more efficiently by encouraging parents and stakeholders sign up for the Washington County App. Please visit this site (https://www.wcs.k12.va.us/article/1203297) for more information about this app and a link to download it.
Again, thanks to everyone who helped keep our kids and staff safe, nothing we do is more important. If you have suggestions on how we can make our schools safer, please don't hesitate to share your ideas with us.

We have had a great start to our new school year! We have just a couple of announcements.
Beginning Monday, make sure if there is a change in your child's transportation that you send a note in the morning or call the office before 2:00. Do not send an email to the teacher or a message through Class Dojo because the teacher may not see it until after school ends. All transportation changes have to come through the office.
All car riders have to be dropped off and picked up in the car rider line. You may not walk your child across due to safety issues of crossing through the bus lane. During pickup, utilize the church parking lot to line up instead of parking along side of Rhea Valley Road and Monroe Road. Once our driveway is full, you may line up in the church parking lot and cross the road as our driveway clears.
Thank you for making this a great and safe year!
